African Development Solutions (Adeso)

African Development Solutions (Adeso) is a Nairobi-based humanitarian and development non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1991 by environmental activist Fatima Jibrell. Originally named Horn Relief, the organization rebranded to Adeso in 2012. Adeso operates in Somalia, Kenya, and South Sudan, focusing on community-led development and humanitarian aid.

Mission and Activities

Adeso’s mission is to work with African communities to create environments where they can thrive, emphasizing local leadership and sustainable solutions. The organization is known for pioneering cash-based programming in East Africa, providing direct financial assistance to communities in need. Other key initiatives include women’s literacy programs, agricultural support, environmental education, and advocacy for locally-led aid systems.
